City Vehicles on the "Hit List" & A Conspiracy Theory

The city council recently passed a policy that prohibits city employees from taking their vehicles home. This includes police officers who use their vehicles to commute. Cops are within those groups of people that sometimes get called out or respond to situations to provide backup in their off hours. That's been a historical fact as far back as I can remember. Now they have to stay parked, in an unsecured area because the city council decided it would be in the best interest of the city to park them for whatever reason. One officer called his council member, Mike Mier, incidentally whose name is of German decent, and asked him why the vehicles were taken away. Council Member Mier, apparently referring to his "Mein Kampf" playbook, simply responded in a tyrannical fashion, by saying "because we can...that's why". When one our politicians and public servants respond to questions by answering "because we can", that just makes me want to get a swastika arm band, click my heels and throw my hand in the air and yell "Zeig Heil".

I tried to come up with the reason why a politician who was elected to serve the public would come up with an answer that you would only expect to hear from SS Troopers in Nuremberg in the 40's. I decided on 2 possibilities. One...he doesn't have a good answer. Two...he has a good answer but he might get implicated in some effort that he would rather not talk about. Without good reasons then the public is left to speculate. Of which I will do later in this article.

I had asked a few people about the recent going's on and trying to figure out these recent decisions that were made.  The closure of the Tupper store, magnolia gift Shoppe, telephone museum, ending the 4th of July celebration and likely the Christmas festivities occurred because the cops asked for raises. Council Members insisted that all employees receive raises. This created a heavier burden on the budget and the cops ended up with only a 10% increase and forced the closures rather than reorganization. The wage gap that existed before the mess still exists, just on a higher scale since everyone got a raise. The closures of the cities most treasured tourist icon's were done without any time lapse. It appears to everyone I spoke to that they were done in retaliation for the recent efforts to obtain raises for the police department. It appears suspicious and not well understood by a few that had exchanges with.

The city council has the legal right to create or change the cities administrative policies however you have to ask yourself why would they when the Mayor is capable of doing so on his own. The decision to park the city vehicles should have been the decision of the mayor and his department heads. It's an administrative decision that the City Council doesn't need to micro-manage. But, they chose to invoke their power and make the decision. Ultimately the Mayor will take the heat for it so they don't care.

I am of the opinion that there is a politically driven character assassination of sorts in the works.  I don't have many,  but indulge me for a moment while I explain my conspiracy theory.  It goes like this. The Mayor is on the target list to lose the next election or better yet on the target list for a recall, that might coincidently come up in discussion here in the next few months.  It appears since the election of Mayor Terry Duhon there hasn't been any synergy between the City Council and the Mayors office.  It looks like there is a power shift underway from what was once held by the previous mayor Greg Marcantel, to the city council. Someone or some group is attempting to make Mayor Terry Duhon a "lame duck" mayor prematurely. In this conspiracy theory, it appears the city council is working to weaken Terry Duhon's political muscle and make him " politically insignificant".

If you have decided to play along in this conspiracy theory then you may ask, "Who would do such a thing"?
I would have to say anyone who aspires to be Mayor and now regrets they didn't put their name in the ring during the last election. That narrows the field down to 2 or 3. A majority of the voters have a short memory span. They don't remember who caused all the tourist attraction closures, and the other controversial issues that came up around the time the cops were trying to get their raises. They only remember when it occurred,  and that was right after the new mayor was elected.

Should a recall petition start up here shortly I would bet my last dollar one of the city council members or possibly two would be behind it. In the shadows of course. Which one? It's the ones that are jockeying for position. The ones that are introducing the ideas to close the tourist attractions and to implement the policies that will negatively affect the police department employees. The ones that implement policies that will ultimately pass the blame onto the mayor in quiet quarters. The other council members are going along because they are suckered into it. Oblivious to the real goals. There are a couple who may be playing the retaliation game and the rest are along for the ride.  Their not retaliating out of meanness or spite. Their retaliating for something much larger.
In this conspiracy the goal is simple. Discredit your opponent before he knows you are his opponent. Act with bravado while your a council member because your not running for that seat again. Create discord and quietly fuel a recall petition, with a backup plan for the next election cycle.  Give yourself the reputation that you stood up to the mayor and council for the good of the people, when in fact what you did was sucker punch them while they weren't looking, and conspiring to undermine their authority and effectiveness.

All the while betting on the fact that voters won't remember shit at election time....It sounds pretty plausible to me.

Now if all these recent controversial issues were the result of the Mayor's own efforts, and leading the pack in doing all this to his own political career, then I guess that blows the hell out of my conspiracy theory, . If so, please cut me some slack because this is my first conspiracy theory!
